the hobo experience.

My friend is heading out to Ireland from Halifax, so I decided to take the bus up with her and explore Hali with her for a few days. We arrived and were greeted with sunny skies, something I had forgotten existed. Our weekend was pretty much filled with just sun and roaming the streets of Halifax which was lovely. The first couple nights were spent with my friends sister and husband and friends, where we got to crash in their hotel room. We got to go see Our Lady Peace for FREE (compliments of Jens..sisters..husbands..cousin. who was a security guard at the show. yipee!) and at one point, while the other girls were shopping, Jen and I opted for the sunny boardwalk, and somehow found ourselves in the middle of a black gospel festival. Awesome. The girl who was the lead singer in the gospel group we saw was white though! it was insane, if you just closed your eyes, she definitely sounded pretty impressive. We roamed through the black market, avoided the 500 dollar jean store, and ate cows icecream in the park. It was wonderful.(aside from the fact i lost/ had stolen 100 dollars haha..)
our last day and night there was truly the interesting part of the trip.
we had to check out of the hotel room by 10 or so. So we packed up and were out of there at a bit after 9, so Jen and I picked up our 5 bags between us, plus pillows, and headed out to try and find my brothers place where we would be staying. Now honestly, it wasn't a far walk. but when you've got straps digging in to your neck and your friend is carrying her 50 pound or more bookbag, walking to the elevator in the hotel was plenty. So began our hobo day, our first hobo act of the day being stealing bread and eggs from the continental breakfast at the hotel, which would have been fine if we had been technically allowed to stay there. so we dove in and dove out, also carrying the 3 doggy bags of food leftovers that not only included our leftovers, as well as someone elses. (haha) and headed out. We got to owens house and sure enough he had already gone to work. So seeing as how we could barely move anymore, we opted for spreading a blanket on owens neighbors porch and playing some dutch blitz. After playing, and eating our lunch (no utensils included) we decided to go to the dal music building to hide our stuff and go explore. So that was fun, we roamed around, it was yet another sunny day, and we got to eat super yummy thai food for lunch, and then headed to dal to grab our stuff and go back to the porch to hang out till owen got home. At this point (around 8pm) we were so sore that we texted a yoga friend and asked her what to do, and ended up (with many stares from passer- bys) doing yoga on our porch. Owen called to say he wouldnt be home till 10:30, so i crawled under a blanket and went to sleep. At 11pm (still no sign of owen) we heard a girl scream on the lawn, and yes, it was owens neighbor. We quickly explained what happened and she told the cab she had waiting for her to leave since she knew we werent sketchy hobos (well..sorta..haha) and luckily she had a key to owens!! so yay, we went in and found ourselves in the nastiest house ever imagined, proving that men should never be left on their own. Many bugs, many stains, many smells (none that were good) and so we went in to an empty room and found a box spring which would later become our bed for the night with one blanket and one pillow between the two of us. Good times. My brother told me that I had to catch the bus ( a half hour walk away) at 8:05 the next morning. Luckily Jen and I predicted he could be wrong and left at 6:45 am, and got to the bus stop at 7:40, where the bus was literally driving away. Jen screamed after it and he stopped for me, saying that the bus was supposed to have left at 7:15 and that I was lucky (thank you Jesus.) and I hurried on and it was pretty sad not being able to say goodbye, but its all good. I left one of my bags behind but my brothers coming down tomorrow.
Now I'm at home chilling in my pj's and packing for Iceland for which I leave on Sunday. Pretty exciting. Assuming theres internet available where I'm going, I'll update my blog as soon as possible.
